Crisis Advocate

Responsibilities

• Perform triage screening and psychosocial assessments for clients in crisis via 911 dispatch transfers
• Provide de-escalation support and formulate individualized, age-appropriate safety plans
• Collaborate with the Des Moines Police Department (DMPD) and multi-disciplinary teams to provide behavioral health support
• Connect clients with community resources and provide referrals to Broadlawns Medical Center services
• Maintain accurate and timely electronic documentation of all services provided
• Assist with client transportation and provide interim support plans as needed

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in human services or a related field from an accredited program
• 2+ years of experience working with individuals experiencing chronic mental illness
• Valid Iowa Driver's License and the ability to transport clients
• Ability to pass a Des Moines Police Department (DMPD) background check and fingerprinting
• Proven ability to verbally and physically de-escalate clients
• Proficiency in electronic charting and documentation
• Ability to work cooperatively in a high-stress, multi-disciplinary environment
