About the role

Responsibilities

  • Perform sample accession, processing, and case sign-in
  • Conduct sample cutting, extraction, DNA quantitation, and DNA sample preparation
  • Execute Sanger and next-generation sequencing procedures and data analysis
  • Perform administrative review of case reports
  • Conduct instrument maintenance, performance checks, and laboratory cleaning
  • Manage reagents and supplies inventory and preparation
  • Participate in validation projects and provide validation plans and summaries
  • Assist in training and competency assessment programs

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree in criminalistics, forensic science, chemistry, biology, physics, molecular genetics, genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, entomology, anthropology, ecology, or a related scientific field
  • For Assignment Level II: One year of experience as a Criminalist at Level I-B, or one additional year of qualifying experience in criminalistics or forensic science
  • Authorization to work in the United States is required

About the Company

The Office of Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) investigates cases of persons who die within New York City from criminal violence, accident, suicide, or suspicious circumstances. The OCME Molecular Genetics Laboratory provides postmortem molecular diagnostic testing to identify gene changes that may explain sudden deaths.
