Creature Supervisor

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of Creature Technical Directors, acting as the creative, technical, and morale lead.
• Develop the aesthetic look and provide technical continuity across various shows.
• Oversee the setup of the creature TD pipeline, including writing tools, hero rigging, and simulation setup.
• Review shotwork and provide constructive feedback to the crew.
• Collaborate with CG Supervisors and Production Managers to bid, schedule, and cast shotwork.
• Establish workflows and best practices for CFX and rigging in collaboration with global heads of departments.
• Mentor junior artists and newly hired Creature TDs.
• Troubleshoot creature rigging and asset issues across multiple disciplines.
• Script utilities, tools, and plug-ins to support the pipeline.

Requirements

• Proven professional experience in a leadership role within VFX or CG animation.
• BA in computer graphics, fine arts, design, photography, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Extensive background as a Maya rigger and/or Houdini simulation artist for advanced hero assets.
• Deep knowledge of anatomy and skinning.
• Proficiency with Linux and Python scripting.
• Expertise in Maya and Houdini.
• Strong communication skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience working at ILM.
• Experience producing CG characters and creatures for visual media.
• Basic proficiency in other disciplines such as Modeling, Texturing, TD, or Animation.
