About the role
Responsibilities
- Enforce laws and traffic regulations to ensure public safety
- Investigate crimes and respond to various situations including automobile accidents, robberies, and medical emergencies
- Utilize crime prevention techniques and provide general assistance to the public
- Gather evidence, take statements, obtain witnesses, and secure crime scenes
- Prepare detailed reports and provide testimony in court
- Patrol assigned areas to prevent or discover the commission of crimes
Requirements
- MCOLES Certification or ability to become MCOLES certifiable
- Valid, unrestricted Michigan Driver's License with a clean driving record
- Ability to render first-aid to injured persons
- Must live within 24 miles of the Kent County border within one year of hire
- No felony convictions
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion during emergencies
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or a related field
- Demonstrated work experience in law enforcement
- Fluency in a second language
