County Patrol Officer

Responsibilities

• Enforce laws and traffic regulations to ensure public safety
• Investigate crimes and respond to various situations including automobile accidents, robberies, and medical emergencies
• Utilize crime prevention techniques and provide general assistance to the public
• Gather evidence, take statements, obtain witnesses, and secure crime scenes
• Prepare detailed reports and provide testimony in court
• Patrol assigned areas to prevent or discover the commission of crimes

Requirements

• MCOLES Certification or ability to become MCOLES certifiable
• Valid, unrestricted Michigan Driver's License with a clean driving record
• Ability to render first-aid to injured persons
• Must live within 24 miles of the Kent County border within one year of hire
• No felony convictions
• Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion during emergencies

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or a related field
• Demonstrated work experience in law enforcement
• Fluency in a second language
