About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic engagement and day-to-day coordination with GEF recipient country focal points, including Operational and Political Focal Points and Council Members.
  • Implement the GEF Country Engagement Strategy through capacity building, workshops, and training programs for key stakeholders.
  • Manage formal and informal communication channels to address operational challenges and promote GEF initiatives within Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs).
  • Support the development of country briefs, analytical products, and training materials regarding GEF operational policies and guidelines.
  • Facilitate constituency meetings and coordinate participation in international fora such as COPs and UNEA.
  • Collaborate with GEF Implementing Agencies, civil society partners, and regional teams to align conservation and sustainable development efforts.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in social sciences, international relations, public policy, or a related field.
  • At least five years of relevant professional experience.
  • Strong operational experience working with organizations featuring governance structures similar to the GEF.
  • Proven track record in project management and significant operational work.
  • Experience working in developing countries, specifically within the context of conservation or sustainable development.
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish is essential.
  • Ability to travel frequently to global, regional, and national GEF-related events.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Portuguese is highly desirable.
  • Experience in the design and execution of conservation and sustainable development projects.
  • Direct experience in developing and implementing GEF projects.
