About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of counter-predation strategies, including threat assessments, risk mapping, and proactive non-lethal interventions.
  • Co-design and pilot affordable, scalable solutions such as solar-powered livestock collars, secure enclosures, and electric fences with local communities.
  • Conduct community dialogues, focus groups, and interviews to understand human-tiger conflict (HTC) patterns and evaluate mitigation effectiveness.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for communities, rangers, and stakeholders on livestock husbandry and counter-predation tools.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of interventions, producing reports on predation incidents and community livelihood improvements.
  • Collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, and local stakeholders to facilitate knowledge exchange and align with national conservation plans.
  • Ensure all engagement with local and indigenous communities adheres to ethical standards, including Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in human-wildlife conflict mitigation, livestock management, or agricultural engineering.
  • Proficiency in Bahasa Malaysia; English proficiency is preferred.
  • Ability to be based in Jerantut, Pahang.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly to remote field sites.
  • Strong communication skills for community engagement and stakeholder coordination.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possession of a valid driving license (Class D).
  • Experience working specifically with predator deterrence in rural or conservation settings.
  • Knowledge of the Malaysian conservation and policy environment regarding HTC issues.
