Counselor (On-Call)

Responsibilities

• Provide professional counseling and support groups for victims and families of violent crime and sexual assault
• Deliver 24-hour crisis intervention, including telephone counseling and on-site support during medical exams or investigations
• Respond promptly to pager calls from medical examiners, law enforcement, and medical personnel within a 30-minute timeframe
• Assist victims with compensation claims, public aid, psychotherapy referrals, and the preparation of victim impact statements
• Act as a liaison between victims and child protection workers, law enforcement, attorneys, and community organizations
• Provide advocacy through community engagement, educational presentations, and professional networking
• Maintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with state laws and victim rights regulations
• Assist in training volunteers for crisis intervention

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, Psychology, or Human Services
• Two years of related counseling experience
• Valid State of Iowa driver’s license
• Ability to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required
• Must meet the requirements stated in Iowa Code Chapter 915.20A for a victim counselor
• Ability to pass a criminal background check, drug screen, and national fingerprint/abuse record checks
