Counsellor to Students

Responsibilities

• Provide academic and personal counseling services to post-secondary allied health students
• Support students' mental health by offering guidance and fostering a nurturing environment
• Develop and facilitate workshops for students and staff on topics such as stress management and coping strategies
• Assess complex issues and implement relevant therapeutic strategies and techniques
• Support student growth through various modalities, including CBT, DBT, trauma-informed, or somatic models

Requirements

• Master's degree in Counselling, Education, Psychology, or Social Work
• Professional counselling membership (CRPO, CCPA, CASWE, or OAMHP)
• Strong working knowledge of the challenges faced by post-secondary students
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Satisfactory Canadian Police Clearance required upon hire

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in anti-oppressive practice
• Experience conducting group counseling sessions
• Knowledge of transition challenges for young adults (ages 18-25)
• Proficiency in assessing and supporting students with anxiety, depression, or disordered eating
• Five years of counseling experience, including risk assessment training
• Experience supervising beginning counsellors or student therapists
