Counsel, Product & Regulatory - Payments & AML

Responsibilities

• Advise on payments products and infrastructure, including payment rails, product launches, and partner relationships.
• Partner cross-functionally with Product, Compliance, Risk, Engineering, and Operations teams to provide legal perspective during early ideation.
• Support the launch of new payment capabilities and help teams navigate regulatory complexity in ambiguous environments.
• Collaborate with AML Advisory, Sanctions, and Compliance teams to support financial crimes initiatives and interpret requirements.
• Develop scalable legal frameworks and guidance to improve organizational consistency and decision-making.
• Utilize AI tools within legal workflows to drive efficiency and smarter work practices.

Requirements

• 4+ years of legal experience.
• Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• Experience supporting fintechs, banks, payment companies, BaaS providers, or regulators with substantial payments or AML exposure.
• Strong working knowledge of payments-related regulatory frameworks and familiarity with BSA/AML and sanctions requirements.
• Exceptional communication skills and the ability to tailor advice to different audiences.
• Strong judgment and comfort operating in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
• Proactive sense of ownership and a genuine curiosity about financial infrastructure.
• Knowledge of AI use cases within legal roles or financial services.
