Counsel

Responsibilities

• Provide legal support to operating business units on environmental and regulatory matters, including compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
• Advise on environmental aspects of new project development and environmental permitting.
• Provide environmental law support and due diligence for corporate transactions such as mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures.
• Interact with regulatory agencies and assist with inspections, information requests, and notices of noncompliance.
• Develop and implement training programs for company leaders and employees regarding environmental compliance and substantive law.
• Coordinate the company's advocacy positions on future legislative and regulatory matters.
• Conduct legal research and develop subject matter expertise to act as a resource for the organization.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate degree.
• Current license to practice law in a U.S. state and membership in good standing.
• 5 or more years of relevant legal experience.
• Expertise in environmental law.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with laws and regulations concerning the transportation of hazardous materials (DOT, FMCSA, FRA, PHMSA).
• Experience with personal and process safety regulations (OSHA).
• Experience with Clean Water Act permitting and compliance, including NPDES, Section 401/404, and SPCC plans.
