Cost Estimator

Responsibilities

• Conduct incoming, in-process, and outbound inspections of railcars to determine repair requirements.
• Assess railcar conditions to ensure compliance with AAR regulations and customer specifications.
• Prepare detailed estimates of repair costs, including parts, materials, and labor.
• Act as a primary liaison between customers, railroad personnel, and maintenance/repair facilities.
• Requisition necessary repair parts and materials.
• Maintain accurate documentation, including invoices, AAR billing repair cards, and testing records.
• Utilize tools, gauges, and measuring devices required for the inspection process.

Requirements

• High school education or equivalent.
• Mechanical aptitude.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and other digital systems.
• Strong attention to detail and multitasking skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
• Flexibility to work overtime hours as needed.
• Ability to work as a collaborative team player.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in the rail industry.
