Cost Accountant

Responsibilities

• Own the standard cost framework in SAP, including coordinating cost updates for raw materials, subassemblies, and finished drones
• Run and review periodic cost rolls and lead cross-functional reviews before activation
• Monitor and analyze production variances to distinguish operational efficiency from standard cost drift
• Manage the monthly capitalization of labor and overhead into inventory and maintain accurate absorption rates
• Reconcile WIP, finished goods, and raw material inventory each period
• Support subcontract manufacturing cost flows and component transfers in partnership with Purchasing
• Build and maintain unit cost and margin reporting for Operations and Leadership
• Support inventory cycle counts and the annual physical inventory process
• Partner with the finance team on month-end and year-end close and prepare schedules for external auditors
• Continuously improve cost accounting documentation, including SOPs and new product introduction (NPI) processes

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 4+ years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment with multi-level BOMs
• Strong working knowledge of standard costing, WIP accounting, and inventory valuation under US GAAP
• Hands-on experience with an integrated ERP system (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or Microsoft Dynamics)
• Experience capitalizing manufacturing labor and overhead and analyzing absorption variances
• Ability to work directly with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Purchasing teams to gather operational inputs
• Strong Excel skills and the ability to build clear cost and margin analyses for non-finance audiences
• High attention to detail and a strong control mindset

Preferred Qualifications

• SAP Business ByDesign experience, particularly with Production Models and BOMs
• Experience supporting subcontract or contract manufacturing flows
• Background in hardware, robotics, aerospace, or medical device manufacturing
• CPA or CMA certification (or progress toward either)
• Experience supporting external audits at a venture-backed or pre-IPO company
