About the role
Responsibilities
- Serve as legal counsel on regulatory and public policy matters affecting products, business operations, and strategic initiatives.
- Lead legal support for regulatory rulemaking, advocacy strategy, and submissions to federal, state, and other governmental agencies.
- Draft and shape agency comments, position statements, and other regulatory advocacy materials.
- Represent the company in interactions with regulators, trade associations, and standards organizations.
- Advise business partners on developments in energy efficiency, refrigerants, chemicals, packaging/EPR, right to repair, and sustainability.
- Partner with engineering, product management, and compliance functions to assess regulatory risk and interpret new requirements.
- Monitor and analyze proposed and enacted laws, regulations, and standards to identify legal risks and strategic opportunities.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Active bar membership in good standing in any U.S. jurisdiction.
- 7+ years of relevant legal and/or regulatory experience in a law firm, corporate legal department, or government.
- Significant experience analyzing, interpreting, and advising on regulatory, legislative, or administrative law matters.
- Experience supporting regulatory advocacy, including rulemaking comments or agency submissions.
- Strong legal drafting, issue-spotting, and risk assessment skills.
- Ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and translate complex legal issues into clear business guidance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in consumer products, manufacturing, energy, or environmental industries.
- Experience with agencies, trade associations, or standards bodies relevant to product regulation.
- Familiarity with energy efficiency, refrigerants, chemicals regulation, packaging/EPR, or right to repair frameworks.
- Experience with codes and standards development processes.
- In-house legal experience advising business and technical stakeholders.
