About the role

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary front-line point of contact for instructors, students, and staff within the Office of Academic Affairs.
  • Manage the shared SIPA Academic Affairs inbox, prioritizing requests and routing communications to appropriate staff.
  • Provide instructional support regarding course scheduling, examinations, registration, and grade submission timelines.
  • Coordinate classroom utilization, including room assignments and final examination scheduling.
  • Administer updates to the SIPA Bulletin, course directories, and academic information in systems such as SIS and EMS.
  • Support faculty and teaching assistants with systems access (CourseWorks, Zoom, etc.) and orientation sessions.
  • Assist with data gathering, reporting, and special administrative projects to support office operations.
  • Oversee and train student workers providing administrative or research support.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three years of related professional experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, Google Sheets, and standard office software.
  • Experience working with databases, student information systems, or other administrative platforms.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with high discretion.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-volume, customer-facing environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Familiarity with Columbia University academic systems (e.g., SIS, CourseWorks/Canvas, Stellic, EMS).
