About the role
Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and serve nutritious meals in accordance with published service schedules and portioning guidelines
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness by cleaning work areas, equipment, storerooms, and coolers
- Follow all food safety practices and complete required food safety documentation
- Provide direction and supervision to volunteers in the kitchen in a positive and respectful manner
- Manage food waste by ensuring surplus food is properly cooled and stored
- Perform dishwashing and kitchen maintenance duties as needed to ensure a clean and orderly environment
- Report faulty equipment, customer feedback, or operational issues to the supervisor
Requirements
- Grade 12 education or equivalent
- Recognized cooking course certificate
- Foodsafe Level 1 certification
- First Aid Level 1 certification
- Experience in a restaurant or institutional kitchen environment
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods
- Availability to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and statutory holidays
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in inventory management of kitchen supplies
- Experience supervising or teaching others in a kitchen setting
