Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and serve nutritious meals in accordance with published service schedules and portioning guidelines
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness by cleaning work areas, equipment, storerooms, and coolers
• Follow all food safety practices and complete required food safety documentation
• Provide direction and supervision to volunteers in the kitchen in a positive and respectful manner
• Manage food waste by ensuring surplus food is properly cooled and stored
• Perform dishwashing and kitchen maintenance duties as needed to ensure a clean and orderly environment
• Report faulty equipment, customer feedback, or operational issues to the supervisor

Requirements

• Grade 12 education or equivalent
• Recognized cooking course certificate
• Foodsafe Level 1 certification
• First Aid Level 1 certification
• Experience in a restaurant or institutional kitchen environment
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods
• Availability to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and statutory holidays

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in inventory management of kitchen supplies
• Experience supervising or teaching others in a kitchen setting
