About the role
Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and serve nutritious meals in accordance with published service schedules and portioning guidelines
- Maintain high standards of kitchen cleanliness by cleaning work areas, equipment, storerooms, and coolers
- Provide direction and supervision to kitchen volunteers in a positive and respectful manner
- Ensure food safety by completing required forms, managing surplus food storage, and following all safety protocols
- Manage inventory by putting away deliveries and donations and preparing items for the following day's service
- Perform dishwashing and cleaning duties, including floors and stainless steel, when assistance is unavailable
- Report faulty equipment and document customer feedback or operational issues to supervisors
Requirements
- Grade 12 education or equivalent
- Recognized cooking course certificate and restaurant-style training
- Foodsafe Level 1 certification
- First Aid Level 1 certification
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure kitchen environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in an institutional kitchen setting
- Experience with inventory management and supply ordering
