About the role

Responsibilities

  • Prepare menu items for assigned units, including standard, special, and catering menus
  • Fill temporary vacancies across various Dining Services units as a Float Cook
  • Perform Cook 2 duties at the Southside Café when not assigned to a temporary vacancy
  • Collaborate with culinary leadership to develop new seasonal and annual menu items
  • Maintain appropriate par stock levels to ensure product availability and minimize waste
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and preparation of all food products
  • Maintain a clean, organized workspace and ensure safe use of kitchen equipment
  • Provide high-quality customer service to all guests

Requirements

  • Two years of cooking experience in a large-scale food service or culinary operation
  • Six months of experience directing the work of others
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Food Handler’s Permit within 14 days of employment
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two to five years of experience in increasingly responsible food service positions
  • Multi-faceted food experience, including à la carte restaurant cooking
  • Experience with various international or ethnic cuisines
  • Experience leading and training employees
  • General knowledge of commercial-grade kitchen equipment use, safety, and maintenance
