Controller

Responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting operations, including financial reporting, audit management, and federal/state financial compliance.
• Manage day-to-day operations for treasury, accounts payable, student accounts, payroll, and restricted funds (endowment and grant).
• Develop and oversee financial accounting policies in accordance with GAAP and GASB.
• Ensure appropriate internal controls are in place to safeguard College assets.
• Prepare and present financial statements, including budget-to-actual, cash flow forecasts, and annual financial statements.
• Serve as the primary contact for external auditors and manage the annual independent audit process.
• Coordinate federal and state tax reporting, including Form 990, 990T, and 1098T.
• Manage the hiring, training, and evaluation of accounting department staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a financial discipline such as accounting, finance, or economics.
• Five years of progressive accounting experience in a supervisory role.
• Extensive knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting, and financial reporting standards.
• Strong leadership, planning, and organizational skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to convey complex financial ideas.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with various stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) or Accounting.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
• Previous experience working in a higher education or nonprofit setting.
• Proficiency with the Ellucian Banner accounting system.
