About the role
Responsibilities
- Oversee all accounting operations, including financial reporting, audit management, and federal/state financial compliance.
- Manage day-to-day operations for treasury, accounts payable, student accounts, payroll, and restricted funds (endowment and grant).
- Develop and oversee financial accounting policies in accordance with GAAP and GASB.
- Ensure appropriate internal controls are in place to safeguard College assets.
- Prepare and present financial statements, including budget-to-actual, cash flow forecasts, and annual financial statements.
- Serve as the primary contact for external auditors and manage the annual independent audit process.
- Coordinate federal and state tax reporting, including Form 990, 990T, and 1098T.
- Manage the hiring, training, and evaluation of accounting department staff.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a financial discipline such as accounting, finance, or economics.
- Five years of progressive accounting experience in a supervisory role.
- Extensive knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting, and financial reporting standards.
- Strong leadership, planning, and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to convey complex financial ideas.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with various stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) or Accounting.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
- Previous experience working in a higher education or nonprofit setting.
- Proficiency with the Ellucian Banner accounting system.
