Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver the operational, commercial and safety performance of all allocated projects
• Manage Project Managers, ensuring safe on-time delivery and protecting margins
• Oversee project budgets, cashflow, profitability, and cost forecasting
• Manage contractual obligations and notices using NEC, JCT, or bespoke contracts
• Accountable for HSEQ performance and enforcing safe systems of work
• Act as the senior operational/commercial interface with clients, main contractors, and designers
• Maintain project risk registers and implement mitigation actions
• Produce regular operational and commercial reports for the Contracts Director
• Support bids with delivery input and act as bid director where assigned

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in operational/contracts management within civil engineering
• Experience in tunnelling, pipe jacking, or trenchless works preferred
• Proven record of managing multiple projects and leading Project Managers
• Strong experience with UK contract forms (NEC preferred)
• Commercial competence in budgeting, forecasting, and final accounts
• Practical site experience in heavy civils, plant, and logistics
• HND or Degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering
• Full UK driving licence with willingness to travel and stay overnight

Preferred Qualifications

• Chartered or professional membership
• NEBOSH General Certificate or SMSTS
• Proficiency in ERP/project systems such as CostX, Aconex, SAP, or Primavera/MS Project
