Consultant in Stroke Medicine

Responsibilities

• Provide consultant-led assessment and management of patients with acute stroke and TIA
• Lead and participate in thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy pathways
• Oversee management of patients on the acute stroke unit and ensure high-quality MDT working
• Lead consultant input into the stroke rehabilitation pathway and secondary prevention clinics
• Take an active role in stroke clinical governance, including SSNAP and quality improvement
• Provide clinical leadership for the stroke multidisciplinary team
• Contribute to the teaching and training of junior doctors and allied health professionals

Requirements

• Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a licence to practise
• Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in General Internal Medicine and/or Geriatric Medicine
• MRCP (UK) or equivalent specialist qualification
• Completion of a recognised higher specialty training programme with substantial stroke medicine experience
• Demonstrable experience in the full stroke pathway from hyperacute to rehabilitation
• Familiarity with thrombectomy referral pathways and regional network working
