Consultant in Orthopaedic Surgery (Upper Limb)

Responsibilities

• Provide consultant-led elective upper limb surgical services including shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand surgery
• Lead elective upper limb outpatient clinics, including new patient assessment and post-operative review
• Undertake procedures such as arthroplasty, arthroscopy, tendon reconstruction, and fracture management
• Participate in the orthopaedic trauma on-call rota providing consultant-level decision-making
• Contribute to the teaching and supervision of specialty trainees and clinical staff
• Participate in departmental clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement activity

Requirements

• Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a licence to practise
• Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery (or eligible within six months)
• FRCS (Tr & Orth) or equivalent specialist qualification
• Completion of a recognised higher surgical training programme with upper limb subspecialty experience
• Demonstrable surgical competence in shoulder/elbow arthroplasty and arthroscopic surgery
• Ability to contribute independently to the orthopaedic on-call rota
