About the role

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe and effective anaesthetic care for patients undergoing eye surgery from neonates to the elderly
  • Lead preoperative assessments and tailor anaesthetic plans using local anaesthesia, sedation, or general anaesthesia
  • Manage risks and complications during surgical procedures
  • Support surgeries ranging from cataracts to complex orbital operations
  • Collaborate closely with ophthalmic surgeons and theatre teams to ensure efficient service delivery
  • Shape departmental standards, mentor junior staff, and contribute to clinical governance

Requirements

  • GMC Specialist Register - Ophthalmic Anaesthesia
  • FRCA qualification
  • CCT or CESR
  • 6+ months NHS Consultant Ophthalmic Anaesthesia experience
