About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership and psychiatric care within a forensic inpatient setting
  • Act as an Approved Clinician and hold Section 12 approval under the Mental Health Act
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments, psychiatric evaluations, and treatment planning
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, legal professionals, and external agencies
  • Contribute to Mental Health Review Tribunals, court reports, and legal proceedings
  • Supervise junior doctors and contribute to their training and development
  • Participate in clinical governance, service development, and quality improvement initiatives

Requirements

  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • Inclusion on the Specialist Register for Forensic Psychiatry (or within 6 months of CCT)
  • MRCPsych or equivalent qualification
  • Section 12 approval and Approved Clinician status under the Mental Health Act
  • Extensive experience in forensic psychiatry and secure mental health services
  • Strong leadership, risk management, and communication skills
