Consultant Gastroenterologist

Responsibilities

• Deliver consultant-led care for gastroenterology inpatients in collaboration with colleagues
• Run gastroenterology outpatient clinics
• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy
• Participate in the consultant on-call rota
• Support strategic development and continuous improvement of gastroenterology services
• Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement, and service evaluation
• Provide supervision, mentorship, and educational support for junior medical staff
• Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education
• Attend and contribute to departmental, divisional, and multidisciplinary meetings

Requirements

• Basic medical qualification
• MRCP (UK), MRCP Gastroenterology or equivalent postgraduate qualification
• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
• Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register in Gastroenterology (or eligibility within six months)
• CCT in Gastroenterology (or equivalent for overseas trained applicants)
• Broad clinical experience across gastroenterology and hepatology
• JAG accreditation in diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy
• Experience working within multidisciplinary teams
• Evidence of commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education
• Evidence of participation in clinical audit and quality improvement

Preferred Qualifications

• Higher degree (MD, PhD or equivalent)
• Subspecialty expertise in Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), Nutrition, Video Capsule Endoscopy, or Transnasal Endoscopy
• Formal teaching or educational qualification
• Research experience and peer-reviewed publications
