Consular Adviser

Responsibilities

• Provide advice and practical support to New Zealanders in distress, including crisis situations, medical issues, detention, and bereavement
• Manage passport, citizenship, and notarial services with high accuracy and attention to detail
• Liaise with local police, government agencies, and other consulates to support case outcomes
• Support New Zealand citizens in detention or prison and maintain contact with their families
• Respond to enquiries via phone, email, and face-to-face interactions
• Maintain accurate records, case notes, and reporting requirements
• Contribute to emergency response and contingency planning
• Build and maintain professional relationships with key stakeholders and partners

Requirements

• Strong English language skills with the ability to communicate clearly
• Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure, uncertainty, or in emotional situations
• Strong interpersonal skills and confidence engaging with government authorities
• Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work independently with high autonomy
• Right to work in Vietnam
• Flexibility to respond to urgent situations outside of normal working hours, including evenings and weekends

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with government processes or public-facing services
• Familiarity with visa, passport, or immigration-related knowledge
• Understanding of local governmental systems and administrative processes in Vietnam
