Conservation Laborer

Responsibilities

• Assist full-time staff with manual labor tasks required to maintain the county park system
• Participate in the care of county-owned lawns, trees, shrubs, and plants, including mowing, trimming, and clearing brush
• Perform routine cleaning of restroom/shower facilities, shelters, offices, and campsite areas
• Maintain and clean recreation areas and playground sites, checking for safety concerns
• Assist with light construction, painting, and other maintenance projects
• Operate various equipment including hand tools, power tools, mowers, tractors, and service vehicles
• Assist in the maintenance of county trails and replenish custodial supplies
• Complete daily work logs and other necessary documentation

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Valid State of Iowa driver's license
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
• Ability to perform manual labor in all weather conditions
• Ability to walk and stand for prolonged periods and walk on uneven surfaces
• Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screen
• Ability to pass a post-employment physical examination and physical capacity testing

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience operating equipment such as mowers, weed eaters, and hand tools
• Pesticide Applicator’s License per Iowa Code Section 206.6
