About the role
Responsibilities
- Conduct semi-empirical and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to characterize the aerodynamic performance and stability of novel munition concepts.
- Perform detailed studies of complex flow phenomena, including vortex interactions, shock-boundary layer interactions, and turbulence.
- Develop and execute coupled performance simulations in collaboration with partners in heat transfer, flight dynamics, and control.
- Apply aerodynamic, flight mechanics, and acoustics principles to predict physical behaviors associated with aeroballistic launch and flight.
- Develop and apply advanced meshing techniques to achieve highly accurate and efficient CFD results.
- Identify gaps in experimental and simulation capabilities and propose technical solutions.
- Prepare and present technical documentation and presentations summarizing research efforts.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
- 5+ years of relevant experience (exceptional candidates with less experience will be considered).
- Experience with computational aerodynamic models such as CFD++ or Ansys/Fluent.
- Experience executing research to evaluate the aerothermodynamic behavior of high-speed projectiles.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Active Security Clearance or eligibility to obtain.
