About the role
Responsibilities
- Attend IACUC protocol review and regular meetings
- Disseminate information and advice regarding the animal care and use program to Columbia University researchers
- Visit and assess animal care and use facilities and investigators to ensure compliance with federal regulations, national standards, and university policies
- Conduct reviews of animal use records to ensure consistency with IACUC-approved protocols
- Perform pre-reviews of protocols to ensure completeness and regulatory compliance
- Report findings from faculty and laboratory assessments to the Executive Director
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of laboratory animal science and engage in professional development
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- Four years of related laboratory animal experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Professional in IACUC Administration (CPIA) certification
- Strong knowledge of regulations and guidelines pertaining to the use of laboratory animals
- Familiarity with commonly used laboratory animal species
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with researchers and veterinarians
- Keen attention to detail
