Competitive Underwriter

Responsibilities

• Price, structure, and execute municipal bond transactions within competitive sale processes
• Analyze bond announcements to build pricing scales, yield curves, and relative value assessments
• Develop and execute bidding strategies while monitoring market conditions, rates, and supply/demand
• Evaluate credit fundamentals, structure, call features, and investor demand to determine optimal bid levels
• Manage market and inventory risk by coordinating with the trading desk to hedge or distribute risk
• Partner with Sales and Trading teams to align on secondary levels, liquidity, and investor appetite
• Support post-award execution, including allocation, distribution, and secondary market trading strategies

Requirements

• 5–10+ years of experience in municipal underwriting, trading, or syndicate
• Strong familiarity with competitive sale processes and tools such as BidComp or IPREO
• Deep understanding of municipal bond structures, credit analysis, and yield curves
• Advanced Excel and financial modeling capabilities
• Proven ability to make analytical decisions under significant time pressure
• Strong market intuition and pricing judgment

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience bidding on high-volume competitive deals
• Established relationships with municipal market participants
• Knowledge of derivatives and hedging strategies
