About the role
Responsibilities
- Serve as an unarmed, uniformed ambassador for the UMass Boston Police Department (UMBPD) through community engagement and outreach.
- Perform campus patrols on foot or at designated posts to ensure the safety of property and persons.
- Provide direction, general information, and resources to students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
- Assist with non-criminal duties including issuing parking tickets, performing walking escorts, and conducting building checks.
- Respond to non-criminal complaints and assist in emergency situations by administering first aid or directing traffic.
- Monitor access control systems, alarm systems, and CCTV.
- Enforce university policies, by-laws, and the student code of conduct regarding safety and security.
- Prepare detailed reports and logs regarding non-criminal matters such as disturbances or accidents.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license (with the ability to obtain a MA driver's license).
- Ability to successfully pass a comprehensive background check and drug screening.
- Ability to stand for long periods and work in various weather conditions, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and composure during stressful or emergency situations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Some college credits from an accredited institution.
- Prior military experience.
- Three years of progressive work experience in the security services industry.
- Previous security experience within a higher education or university environment.
