About the role
Responsibilities
- Direct the Community Development, Building, and Economic Development Departments.
- Serve as the Planning Director and Zoning Administrator for the City of Johnston.
- Oversee all planning and development processes, including zoning, land development, annexation, site plans, and code enforcement.
- Supervise and coordinate the development of the comprehensive plan, subdivision regulations, and zoning ordinances.
- Provide staff support to the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Board of Adjustment.
- Advise the City Administrator on departmental needs and assist in preparing operating and capital budgets.
- Coordinate the City's Economic Development Department, incentive programs, and sustainability efforts.
- Oversee the Building Department and the Stormwater Utility, including long-range planning and capital improvement projects.
- Act as a liaison between the City and developers, contractors, builders, and various State and Federal agencies.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in community and regional planning or a related field.
- Five years of responsible administrative and supervisory experience in municipal land use administration.
- Valid Iowa Driver's license.
- Comprehensive knowledge of community planning principles and public administration practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related field.
- AICP certification.
