About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide communication therapy and lead group therapy sessions
- Facilitate mealtime assistance, dining programs, and therapeutic feeding as directed by SLPs
- Train patients in the use of methods or devices for social interaction and life skills
- Create communication devices and displays
- Assist therapists in treatment sessions and the setup/programming of equipment
- Educate patients, caregivers, and facilitators on troubleshooting and communication strategies
- Support clerical responsibilities and participate in team meetings and program planning
- Ensure compliance with patient safety policies and hospital procedures
Requirements
- Post graduate diploma in Communicative Disorders Assistant or equivalent
- Clinical or teaching experience with non-speaking or physically disabled persons
- Knowledge and skill in programming speech generating devices (SGDs)
- Ability to construct communication displays
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Boardmaker software
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word software
