About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide communication therapy and lead group therapy sessions
  • Facilitate mealtime assistance, dining programs, and therapeutic feeding as directed by SLPs
  • Train patients in the use of methods or devices for social interaction and life skills
  • Create communication devices and displays
  • Assist therapists in treatment sessions and the setup/programming of equipment
  • Educate patients, caregivers, and facilitators on troubleshooting and communication strategies
  • Support clerical responsibilities and participate in team meetings and program planning
  • Ensure compliance with patient safety policies and hospital procedures

Requirements

  • Post graduate diploma in Communicative Disorders Assistant or equivalent
  • Clinical or teaching experience with non-speaking or physically disabled persons
  • Knowledge and skill in programming speech generating devices (SGDs)
  • Ability to construct communication displays
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Boardmaker software
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word software
