About the role
Responsibilities
- Oversee communications strategy across all channels, including community emails, newsletters, social media, media relations, the website, and University publications.
- Ensure strategic messaging and brand consistency across all content and visual elements.
- Act as managing editor of the University news site and oversee the editorial team, including students and freelancers.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive media strategy to enhance reputation, brand awareness, and thought leadership.
- Provide strategic counsel to internal partners to highlight University news and promote academic programs.
- Create and manage a content calendar to align with broader communications activities.
- Write and assign news releases, bylined articles, e-newsletters, and social media content.
- Assist with crisis management and execute severe weather notification communications.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related liberal arts field.
- 3 years of related full-time professional experience.
- Superior AP-style writing and editing skills with the ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines independently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft and Google suites.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, team management, and client management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a university climate that promotes multicultural understanding and cultural fluency.
- Ability to balance high-level strategic thinking with daily operational management tasks.
