About the role

Responsibilities

  • Direct and supervise all Communications Center operations to ensure 24/7 emergency and non-emergency dispatch services.
  • Oversee the implementation and lifecycle management of emergency technologies, including CAD/RMS, radio systems, and real-time crime center platforms.
  • Serve as the Department’s VCIN/NCIC Terminal Agency Coordinator (TAC) and liaison with the Virginia State Police.
  • Ensure strict compliance with CJIS, FCC, and DCJS regulations and state 911 governance.
  • Lead the Communications Division training strategy, including onboarding, field training, and continuing education.
  • Manage staffing plans, scheduling models, and resource deployment to maintain continuous coverage.
  • Coordinate communications protocols for campus emergency management and threat response.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in emergency communications, public safety dispatch, or law enforcement operations.
  • Knowledge of CJIS and FCC regulations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent administrative technologies.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
  • Ability to pass a background investigation, psychological evaluation, and drug screening.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in criminal justice, emergency management, communications, or a related field.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience in a public safety environment.
  • Advanced understanding of CAD/RMS platforms and integrated security systems.
