About the role
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the day-to-day functions of the communications department, including writing press releases, talking points, social media posts, blogs, and media advisories
- Research and build lists of key reporters, editors, producers, and bookers from national and local publications
- Craft and send pitches to news media regarding ACLU campaigns and projects
- Monitor news and media trends and track press clips
- Engage in research projects to inform multi-faceted communications plans
Requirements
- Currently matriculated undergraduate student or equivalent experience
- Completion of at least the first year of an undergraduate degree in communications, public relations, journalism, political science, or a related field
- At least one semester of internship or work experience in journalism, public relations, or communications
- Exceptional writing and editing skills
- Familiarity with news media, online platforms, and media trends
- Must be based in the U.S. for the entire duration of the internship
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience drafting press releases, blogs, or social media posts
- Familiarity with Associated Press style
- Experience with media relations software such as Cision or Meltwater
