About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic communications planning and delivery across digital, print, media, marketing, and stakeholder channels.
  • Serve as a key advisor to Ministers, Deputy Ministers, and senior government leaders on complex communications issues.
  • Anticipate emerging issues and manage crisis communications to protect government credibility and public safety.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Council and central communications teams to ensure unified government messaging.
  • Manage communication projects and campaigns from conception to impact, including budgeting and measurable outcomes.
  • Integrate digital strategy, media relations, and stakeholder engagement to influence public behavior and understanding.
  • Guide internal communications and organizational change messaging to build employee engagement.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience developing and delivering multi-channel communications strategies.
  • Proven experience in people management, including coaching and mentoring teams.
  • Experience briefing senior executives and officials for media interviews and public appearances.
  • Strong understanding of government processes and public policy.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Solid understanding of the public-sector environment.
  • Knowledge of Nova Scotia’s unique social, historical, and demographic makeup.
  • French language skills.
  • Experience with data analytics, human-centered approaches, and artificial intelligence.
