About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead strategic communications planning and delivery across digital, print, media, marketing, and stakeholder channels.
- Serve as a key advisor to Ministers, Deputy Ministers, and senior government leaders on complex communications issues.
- Anticipate emerging issues and manage crisis communications to protect government credibility and public safety.
- Collaborate with the Executive Council and central communications teams to ensure unified government messaging.
- Manage communication projects and campaigns from conception to impact, including budgeting and measurable outcomes.
- Integrate digital strategy, media relations, and stakeholder engagement to influence public behavior and understanding.
- Guide internal communications and organizational change messaging to build employee engagement.
Requirements
- Post-secondary education in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field.
- Extensive experience developing and delivering multi-channel communications strategies.
- Proven experience in people management, including coaching and mentoring teams.
- Experience briefing senior executives and officials for media interviews and public appearances.
- Strong understanding of government processes and public policy.
- Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Solid understanding of the public-sector environment.
- Knowledge of Nova Scotia’s unique social, historical, and demographic makeup.
- French language skills.
- Experience with data analytics, human-centered approaches, and artificial intelligence.
