About the role

Responsibilities

  • Draft and adapt social media content to translate litigation, research, and policy work for diverse audiences
  • Monitor social media, digital conversations, and breaking news to identify opportunities for public engagement
  • Prepare press materials including press releases, media advisories, and rapid response content under tight deadlines
  • Develop messaging materials such as talking points and Q&As for emerging issue areas and legal challenges
  • Identify relevant reporters and outlets to draft pitches and secure media coverage
  • Manage day-to-day social media presence and maintain communications systems like content calendars and press lists
  • Support the planning and execution of press calls, conferences, and public-facing events
  • Post content to the Institute’s website and maintain digital asset libraries

Requirements

  • BA or BS degree or equivalent
  • 0-2 years of professional experience in communications, journalism, social media, or advocacy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to draft engaging, audience-aware copy
  • Strong news judgment and interest in media, technology, law, and public policy
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Craft CMS
  • Ability to work independently and handle confidential information with tact

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a legal advocacy, nonprofit, newsroom, or university communications setting
  • Experience drafting digital content for mission-driven organizations or campaigns
  • Familiarity with tools such as Notion, Mailchimp, Canto, Canva, or social media management platforms
  • A passionate interest in free speech, press freedom, and democracy debates
