Commodity Buyer

Responsibilities

• Lead the full sourcing process, including RFQ/RFI activities, technical reviews, and obtaining approval for new business awards
• Conduct market research to identify potential suppliers and products that meet organizational needs
• Negotiate contracts for prices and terms with outside suppliers for both new and carryover components
• Develop and maintain commodity strategies in alignment with organizational targets and regional needs
• Manage supplier commercial issues and ensure compliance with GSM Policies and Procedures
• Establish annual material budgets and perform monthly budget analysis
• Work with suppliers and internal resources to identify, develop, and implement material cost savings
• Develop new suppliers and disruptors to support the needs of various product lines

Requirements

• 4-year University degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related field
• 3+ years of experience in the automotive industry specifically in the purchasing of direct material
• Proven experience in commodity purchasing, such as Forgings, Stampings, Rubber, or Plastics
• Strong negotiation, oral, and written communication skills
• Proficiency in MS Office and the ability to read blueprints and understand basic engineering documents
• Ability to function independently with minimal supervision and travel up to 15%
