Commissioning Engineer

Responsibilities

• Execute system-level commissioning tests including functionality checks, network verification, and performance validation
• Support FAT validation and site acceptance testing (SAT)
• Perform functional testing of inverters, PCS, BMS, EMS/SCADA, and protection relays
• Identify, document, and resolve commissioning deficiencies and manage punch lists
• Manage on-site commissioning teams of 2–10 people
• Coordinate with EPC contractors, OEM field service engineers, and internal teams
• Review and validate configurations for PLC, SCADA, EMS, and network infrastructure
• Maintain a culture of safety including JHA and LOTO programs
• Ensure compliance with NFPA 70E, NEC, IEEE, and NERC/FERC standards

Requirements

• 3–6 years of hands-on commissioning experience on BESS, solar + storage, or utility-scale renewable energy projects
• Direct experience with battery storage systems (BMS, PCS/inverter, EMS/SCADA)
• Proficiency reading electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and P&IDs
• Knowledge of protection relay testing, CT/PT verification, and DC/AC high-voltage systems
• Strong technical writing skills for field reports
• Valid driver’s license and US passport
• Ability to travel >80% of the time

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with major BESS OEMs (Tesla Megapack, BYD, CATL, Sungrow)
• Familiarity with SCADA protocols (DNP3, Modbus TCP/RTU)
• Familiarity with utility interconnection processes
• NETA, NICET, or relevant electrical certifications
• OSHA 10/30 or NFPA 70E training
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field
