Commercial Underwriter - Engineering & Surety

Responsibilities

• Manage Engineering & Surety portfolios by providing market-facing underwriting capabilities and driving profitable growth.
• Conduct in-depth portfolio analysis to assess performance, identify trends, and make strategic recommendations.
• Underwrite and analyze new and renewal business within delegated authority levels.
• Formulate and execute underwriting plans, portfolio strategies, and go-to-market strategies.
• Partner with actuaries, claims professionals, and internal stakeholders to align strategy with company objectives.
• Work closely with intermediaries, brokers, and agents to negotiate terms and gather market feedback.
• Identify cross-selling and up-selling opportunities to drive business growth through various distribution channels.
• Support the development of other underwriters and manage technical referrals.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or Post-graduate qualifications.
• At least 10 years of specialized Engineering underwriting experience.
• Proven experience leading and developing underwriting teams.
• Strong market-facing presence within the local market and industry network.
• Proven track record of driving business growth and managing change in complex environments.
• Deep understanding of the General Insurance industry, including underwriting, claims, and risk engineering dynamics.
• Proficiency in portfolio management, KPIs, and financial analysis of insurance portfolios.
