Commercial Building and Electrical Inspector

Responsibilities

• Conduct commercial building and electrical inspections to ensure compliance with municipal, state, and national codes.
• Perform plan reviews and enforce regulations regarding building construction, electrical installations, zoning, and flood plains.
• Inspect commercial, industrial, and non-residential structures, both existing and under construction.
• Assist with residential inspections under the Wisconsin Uniform Dwelling Code as workload requires.
• Exercise independent judgment and professional responsibility in the enforcement of housing and electrical codes.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Minimum of two years of building inspection experience, preferably in a municipal government setting.
• Current WI DSPS Commercial Electrical Inspector certification.
• Current WI DSPS Commercial Building Inspector certification.
• Current WI DSPS Fire Detection, Prevention, and Suppression Inspector certification.
• Current UDC Construction and HVAC inspector certifications, or the ability to obtain them within 12 months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree or trade school coursework in construction management, housing, electrical, or a closely related field.
