College Counselor

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary college counselor for an assigned caseload, guiding students and families through planning, applications, and matriculation.
• Advise students on course selection, college research, application strategy, standardized testing, financial aid, and essays.
• Write personalized and compelling letters of recommendation that represent each student's unique strengths and character.
• Plan and facilitate grade-level workshops, college fairs, career exploration opportunities, and family education sessions.
• Maintain accurate student records and application data using platforms such as MaiaLearning, Slate, or Common App.
• Collaborate with divisional leadership, teachers, and support staff to ensure a holistic approach to student development.
• Cultivate professional relationships with college admission representatives through meetings and campus visits.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 3+ years of experience in college counseling, admissions, or student advising.
• Strong knowledge of the college admissions landscape, including selective admissions and financial aid.
• Proficiency with college counseling platforms such as MaiaLearning, Slate, or Common App.
• Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse student populations and families.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in School Counseling, Higher Education, or a related field.
• Experience working within an independent school setting.
• Knowledge of the International Baccalaureate (IB) philosophy.
• Experience supporting both U.S. and international university admissions processes.
