Collection Coordinator, Medicare

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and manage Medicare billing and collection activities in accordance with HCFA guidelines.
• Manage high-dollar critical billing accounts, including Kidney Dialysis, Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy, and Cardiac Rehab.
• Perform weekly quality control on MSP billing situations and form completion.
• Analyze potential Medicare Bad Debt accounts and recommend appropriate write-offs.
• Identify Medicare Credit Balances and process adjustments following regulatory directions.
• Act as an intermediary between various hospital departments and Medicare carriers to reconcile billing problems.
• Oversee special projects such as MSP audits, compliance audits, and internal hospital audits.
• Assist the Medicare Manager in developing goals to reduce backlogs and maintain billing status.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 3-5 years of experience in hospital billing or collections.
• 1-2 years of experience working within a mainframe or collection system environment.
• Extensive knowledge of Medicare billing, reimbursement regulations, and state/third-party payer policies.
• Strong analytical and financial assessment skills with high attention to detail.
• Superior written and verbal communication skills for interacting with staff, physicians, and financial institutions.
• Ability to manage a high volume of work within stringent production time frames.

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree in a business-related field.
• 6 months to 1 year of supervisory experience.
• Prior experience specifically handling denials.
