Coder Reimbursement Specialist

Responsibilities

• Code and abstract clinical data from medical records for inpatient, outpatient, and various payor types
• Manage workload and oversee day-to-day operations for inpatient and outpatient coders
• Monitor regulatory sources to keep HIM coding staff informed on rules and regulations
• Work with patient financial services to resolve claim denials and assist in updating the charge master
• Educate physician staff on documentation requirements to support E/M codes
• Perform periodic audits of coding accuracy, including physician E/M
• Ensure compliance with government regulations, facility policies, and coding methodologies
• Use encoder, ICD-9-CM, and CPT-5 systems to accurately code diagnoses and procedures

Requirements

• CCS Certification
• 3+ years of recent hospital-based coding experience across all systems
• Proficiency in CPT, ICD-9-CM, and E/M coding methodologies
• Knowledge of DRG and APC reimbursement systems
• Experience with Emergency Room evaluation and management coding
