Code Enforcement Officer

Responsibilities

• Respond to citizen complaints regarding code violations
• Inspect and investigate potential violations of city ordinances
• Proactively patrol properties to identify code violations
• Research land ownership, permitting, and violation records using computer systems
• Prepare and issue notices of violation and communicate findings to violators
• Re-inspect properties to ensure compliance
• Develop and submit paperwork to support Environmental Court proceedings
• Testify in court or judicial proceedings regarding code enforcement cases
• Coordinate with other departments such as building inspection, public works, and fire codes
• Maintain accurate records of complaints, inspections, and case violations

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Valid Mississippi driver’s license
• Ability to obtain ICC Inspector Certification within 12 months of hire
• Ability to lift/carry 50+ pounds
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in various climatic conditions

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Code Enforcement, Planning, or Building Inspection
• Experience in investigation or closely related fields
