About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lead and conduct advanced interdisciplinary research related to coastal systems science, engineering, and computational modeling
  • Develop and apply computational models, engineering analyses, and laboratory or field experiments to support coastal basin research
  • Coordinate research activities across interdisciplinary teams and manage complex research initiatives and sponsored projects
  • Serve as Principal Investigator or key research personnel on sponsored research projects
  • Identify and support the development of external funding opportunities and prepare competitive research proposals
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to graduate and undergraduate students
  • Collaborate with faculty, governmental agencies, and external stakeholders to advance coastal resilience and ecosystem sustainability

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in civil, environmental, or coastal engineering, computational applied mathematics, coastal science, ecology, biology, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience conducting advanced scientific or engineering research in coastal systems or environmental processes
  • Experience in computational modeling and applied mathematics
  • Experience coordinating complex research activities and collaborating within interdisciplinary teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience serving in leadership roles on sponsored research projects
  • Proven track record of mentoring graduate and undergraduate researchers
  • Experience with data analysis, laboratory experimentation, and field investigations related to coastal systems
  • Experience preparing technical reports, research presentations, and successful grant proposals
  • Experience collaborating with governmental agencies and external stakeholders
