CNC Machinist

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret process sheets, blueprints, and sketches to determine machining requirements and dimensional specifications
• Set up and operate CNC machining centres for turning, milling, and grinding operations
• Select and install proper tooling and calculate appropriate feeds and speeds for various materials including steel, copper, brass, aluminium, and bronze
• Read, understand, edit, or write complete CNC programs
• Perform precision quality inspections using micrometres, callipers, height gauges, and bore gauges to ensure tolerances of less than .0025mm
• Apply Lean Manufacturing principles to reduce setup times and improve productivity
• Execute post-machining tasks including cleaning, filing, tapping, reaming, polishing, and final boxing for shipment

Requirements

• Time-served apprenticeship in a machining discipline, or SVQ/NVQ level 3 / HNC in Mechanical Engineering
• Minimum of 5 years of experience operating CNC machine tools within a lean-manufacturing environment
• Proven experience in milling, grinding, or turning using multi-axis machine tools
• Proficiency with machine control systems such as Fanuc, Mazak, Heidenhaim, or Haas
• Demonstrated ability to hold extremely tight machining tolerances (< .0025mm)
• Expertise with precision inspection equipment and gauging devices

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working within the power generation, oil & gas, or aerospace industries
• Experience with Correa or Doosan multi-axis machine tools
