CNC Machinist

Responsibilities

• Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, and specifications to determine dimensions, tolerances, and setup requirements
• Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on materials to guide machining processes
• Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, and accessories on machines such as mills, lathes, and grinders
• Calculate and set machine controls for speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth of cut
• Monitor machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust controls as necessary
• Verify the conformance of finished workpieces to specifications through trial runs and precise measurement
• Fit and assemble parts into complete assemblies and verify alignment
• Confer with engineers and production personnel to resolve machining or assembly problems

Requirements

• One year certificate from a college or technical school, or three to six months of related experience and training
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and instruction manuals
• Mathematical proficiency, including the ability to work with whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
• Hands-on experience operating mills, lathes, and grinders
• Ability to perform physical tasks, including standing for long periods and lifting up to 25 pounds frequently (up to 100 pounds occasionally)
