CNC Lathe Machinist

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate numerically controlled machines to perform precision machining operations including turning, milling, drilling, boring, threading, and facing.
• Read and interpret drawings, job orders, setup sheets, and tooling instructions to process parts accurately.
• Perform first-piece and in-process inspections using calipers, micrometers, bore gages, and indicators.
• Monitor numerical displays to verify dimensional adjustments, feed rates, and machining speeds.
• Identify, load, measure, and set proper cutting tools and establish work origin reference points.
• Recognize and compensate for tool wear and correct for unexpected tapers or inaccuracies.
• Perform preventative maintenance on machines and maintain a clean, organized work area.
• Operate multiple machines simultaneously while adhering to all established safety policies and procedures.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent certificate.
• Strong knowledge of the turning process and general machine set-up principles.
• Ability to read and proof-read G-code programs before execution.
• Proficiency with precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers.
• Ability to operate overhead cranes and lift workpieces using mechanical aids.
• Physical ability to stand for long periods (up to 10 hours per day) and maintain good eye-hand coordination.
