About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide timely clinical, diagnostic, and veterinary care to a wide range of laboratory animal species
- Oversee preventative medicine and health surveillance programs
- Support investigators in the development and use of appropriate animal models
- Assist with pre-, intra-, and post-operative surgical procedures, including anesthesia and analgesia
- Develop study-specific humane endpoints in collaboration with Principal Investigators and Animal Care Committees
- Maintain and update site-specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Participate in Animal Care Committee (ACC) activities, including protocol review and post-approval monitoring
- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule for veterinary emergencies
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree
- Licensed (or eligible for licensure) to practice veterinary medicine in Ontario
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in laboratory animal medicine
- Familiarity with the Animals for Research Act and CCAC guidelines
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a service-oriented approach
Preferred Qualifications
- Board certification in laboratory animal medicine or eligibility
